From Cluttered to Clickable: How Pacific Northwest Marketing Reimagined the Mt. Adams Chamber E-Newsletter

At Pacific Northwest Marketing, we believe strong communities deserve strong communications. That’s why we were excited to partner with the Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce to completely redesign their e-newsletter — transforming it into a branded, strategic, user-friendly communication tool that better serves members and the broader Gorge community.

The result?
The Mt. Adams Insider – Your Link to Business, Community and Collaboration in The Gorge.

This wasn’t just a design refresh. It was a strategic overhaul.

Strengthening the Chamber Brand

One of the first priorities was aligning the e-newsletter with the Chamber’s brand identity. The previous version lacked visual consistency and didn’t fully reflect the professionalism and energy of the organization.

We incorporated consistent fonts, brand colors, improved hierarchy, and cleaner layout structure to strengthen recognition and credibility.

“A chamber newsletter isn’t just information — it’s a brand touchpoint,” says Julie Burgmeier, Director of Pacific Northwest Marketing. “Every time it lands in someone’s inbox, it should reinforce who the Chamber is and the value it brings to the business community.”

By clearly branding the newsletter with a new name and tagline, we gave it a recognizable identity that readers can connect with month after month.

Reorganized for Readability & Engagement

Today’s readers scan before they read. So we restructured the entire newsletter to make it:

  • Easier to skim
  • Clearer to navigate
  • Faster to find relevant content

We introduced clearly defined sections, concise copy blocks, and strategically placed call-to-action buttons so readers can immediately click through for more information.

Instead of burying links inside paragraphs, bold, branded buttons now drive action — whether that’s registering for an event, reading a full article, or learning more about a program.

“We design newsletters for how people actually read — quickly, on mobile, and with limited time,” Burgmeier explains. “If it’s not easy to scan and click, it’s not doing its job.”

Elevating Chamber Members

A Chamber exists to support its members — and we made sure that was front and center.

The redesign introduced:

  • A dedicated Member Area
  • Recognition for new and renewing members
  • A featured Member Spotlight

This gives businesses visibility while reinforcing the value of Chamber membership. It also creates a sense of momentum and growth within the organization.

Putting Events in the Spotlight

Events are one of the Chamber’s most powerful engagement tools — so we made them more prominent and visually engaging.

We also added something strategic and forward-thinking:
A link inviting community members to submit their own events for inclusion.

This not only increases community participation but helps the Chamber serve as a central hub for what’s happening in the Gorge.

Built-In Growth Tools

Beyond design, we focused heavily on growth and shareability.

We:

  • Added prominent social media icons (Facebook, Instagram, and website)
  • Made it incredibly easy to share the newsletter
  • Simplified the e-newsletter signup process
  • Added a signup form directly to the Chamber’s website

The goal? Expand reach organically and grow the Chamber’s audience over time.

Added Member Value: A Constant Contact Partnership Bonus

As part of the redesign, we also secured a partnership bonus for Chamber members. Businesses that sign up for Constant Contact through the Chamber can receive a discount — adding tangible value to membership.

This aligns perfectly with the Chamber’s mission to support business growth while strengthening professional marketing practices across the community.

A Strategic Transformation

More Than a Newsletter — A Communication Strategy

The Mt. Adams Insider is no longer just an email update. It’s a strategic communication platform designed to:

  • Strengthen brand recognition
  • Increase event participation
  • Elevate members
  • Drive website traffic
  • Grow subscriber lists
  • Encourage community collaboration

At Pacific Northwest Marketing, we don’t just redesign — we rethink how communication tools can work harder.

“When you approach a newsletter strategically, it becomes one of the most powerful marketing assets an organization has,” says Burgmeier. “The Mt. Adams Insider now reflects the energy, professionalism, and collaboration happening in this region.”

If your organization’s newsletter feels outdated, cluttered, or underperforming, it may be time for more than a template tweak — it may be time for a strategy.

And that’s where we come in.
